Sexual Assault Awareness Month sees Cal Lutheran rocks painted teal

On Tuesday, April 19, members of the California Lutheran University community walked to the CLU rocks to paint them teal in honor of sexual assault awareness month. This is the first time in the schoolโ€™s history that the rocks have been any color besides white, purple and gold. Junior Cari Monraz, a peer advisor lead, said her coworker, senior Amber Mendoza, was the one who came up with the idea.

โ€œWe didnโ€™t want to do a typical rally, we wanted to do something more interactive,โ€ Monraz said.

Monraz said that the main objective for painting the rocks teal was to bring awareness about sexual assault. She said victims of sexual assault and sexual assault violence often have a tough time opening up to people and trying to find that support.ย

โ€œOur main goal was to show public support, and show victims within our community that they are heard, they are seen, their stories matter,โ€ Monraz said.

Monraz has hopes that painting the rocks in honor of sexual assault awareness is something that the school continues into the future.ย

โ€œI want to make sure itโ€™s tradition that we keep going, cause it is just such an important thing to talk about,โ€ Monraz said.
