California Lutheran University, sponsored by the Community Leaders Association, hosted its annual Mathews Leadership Forum on Thursday, Nov. 7. The event was held in the Lundring Events Center, and was centered around networking to connect students with local industries and create future opportunities.
Administrative Assistant to the Alumni, Family and Community Relations Department Carley Doyle said the Mathews Leadership Forum is student-centered, so Cal Lutheran students can find jobs in the community to succeed after graduating.
“I like to see all the students connecting with different leaders and just finding new networks,” Doyle said.
Cal Lutheran Alum Randy Martinez (‘24) is a member of the Community Leaders Association and has been on the board since the end of his junior year. Martinez said this event is a great way for business leaders and the community to come together and network with Cal Lutheran students.
“Coming back as a grad student, fresh grad, from undergrad, I think it’s great to see the people that I worked alongside with and people that, you know, are in professional careers but also students who are transitioning into that, it’s good to see them come together,” Martinez said.
Retired Cal Lutheran Community Relations Coordinator Robin Fielding has been involved with the Mathews Leadership Forum for about 16 years. Fielding coordinates and invites local business leaders to network with students.
“My favorite part is the connections made and, of course, I’m always just so proud of our students and to introduce them to our local business, civic, and government leaders,” Fielding said.
