California Lutheran University hosted the African Descent Lutheran Association as part of a chapel takeover on Thursday, Feb 27.ย
According to Ryanne Rojas, the spiritual life engagement coordinator, Cal Lutheran has a longstanding partnership with the African Descent Lutheran Association, and they help the campus in different ways.
โThey come every year and host chapel events, they also support our community cupboard quite a bit, bringing donations almost every time they come,โ Rojas said. โI think last year they came four times, but this year they came twice and we allowed other groups to do other Black History events on the alternate days of the month that we had chapel.โย
The collaboration was intended to celebrate Black History Month, but also celebrate the various pastors Cal Lutheran is in partnership with, according to Rojas.ย
โIt was [also] about exposing our students to new music, and new ways of thinking, and new ways of hearing gospel,โ Rojas said. โThis has been ongoing and itโs an ongoing partnership and we really appreciate everything they do and appreciate spending time with them and being able to hear their voices and have that different perspective in chapel every single week.โย ย
