California Lutheran University’s women’s soccer team (7-2-1, 4-1) honored its eight seniors prior to a 3-0 Senior Day shutout of the Caltech Beavers (1-5-1, 1-4) on Saturday at William Rolland Stadium. Family and friends alike took to the 50-yard line to congratulate their Regals on their time as collegiate athletes.
Senior defender Tessa French, in her second season with the Regals after transferring from Boise State University, said she has a fifth year of eligibility that she plans to use next year, meaning she will return and play the 2026 season.
French said on a “really important” afternoon like Senior Day, she had extra motivation to play her hardest.
“I just wanted to play for all my teammates around me because I love them so much,” French said.
French got the scoring started for the Regals in the 12th minute, finding the net for her second goal of the season and of her career with Cal Lutheran. Fellow senior Maya Blodgett had the assist.
Another senior helped extend the Regals’ lead in the 24th minute, this time being midfielder Olivia Suarez, to give Cal Lutheran a 2-0 lead.
The only other goal of the contest came in the 63rd minute, when sophomore defender Keira Hazard netted a goal just over the outstretched fingers of the Caltech goalkeeper to make it 3-0 Cal Lutheran.
The Beavers had a total of two shots on goal, but goalkeeper Kelsey Slaugh blocked both of them, which helped the Regals secure the shutout.
“I’m definitely gonna miss my fellow seniors,” French said. “I feel like I’ve built a lot of good relationships with them, and being our senior day, it was just really sad, but I love them, and I love this team.”
