Women in Business Club hosted its first โPumpkins & Pilatesโ event Wednesday, Oct. 8, in Ullman 101, where students participated in a free mat pilates class led by Paulina Jensen, a junior at California Lutheran University.
The 45-minute workout class was a new meeting style for Women in Business Club, and all 20 spots were reserved. Students were able to stretch, push themselves and eat fall-themed treats afterward.
Jensen, a member of Women in Business Club, has been a barre and mat pilates workout instructor for more than two years. Jensen said she grew up with a background in cheer and dance, and was excited to offer students a workout experience that promoted wellness and involvement on campus.
โIt was a great experience for all the people who normally donโt get the chance to come to a workout class,โ Jensen said. โIโm very happy that I got the opportunity to give this [class] to them.โ
Ullman 101 was decorated with mini pumpkins, and complimentary yoga mats and weights were offered to attendees. At the event, club leaders said the goal of the meeting was to de-stress before midterms and promote wellness and community.

Jensen led the group through slow and controlled movements to promote muscle connection and intensity. She corrected studentsโ form issues throughout the class and encouraged attendees keep pushing.
โIt was definitely not easy, but I think that was the best part,โ said junior Grace Brodoski, a marketing communication major. โHaving the challenge was really nice. It made it different from, say, the yoga classes they offer on campus already.โ
After the workout, club members gathered around the fall-themed table of seasonal treats such as apple cider donuts, apple donut holes and muffins. After socializing and eating, everyone gathered at the front and took photos to finish off the night.
According to Cal Lutheranโs clubs directory, Women in Business Club meets biweekly or monthly and is for โstudents who are interested in finding a position in large corporations and in the field of business.โ Brodoski said the clubโs speaker panels and networking events, in particular, โsets [Women in Business Club] apart from other clubs on campus.โ
โIt was a really great, empowering event that Women in Business put on,โ Brodoski said. โIt was great for all of us to come together and to do such a fun activity on campus.โ
