        Ha sido un año desde que empezó la pandemia y la Ha sido un año desde que empezó la pandemia y las restricciones, y aún estamos sufriendo por las causas de COVID-19. Las restricciones de COVID-19 han causado inconveniencias para muchos, incluso por los atletas estudiantiles que no saben si van a poder jugar quizás por el último año de su carrera de escuela, o por su primer año.

        “Mardi Gras,” Black Student Union’s Soul Fes “Mardi Gras,” Black Student Union’s Soul Fest 2021 looked a little different than years past. The socially-distanced event in Kingsmen Park and Pepper Grove fueled good spirits with food provided by local BBQ restaurant In The Sauce, live music, dancing and beads.

        California Lutheran University sophomore and pre-m California Lutheran University sophomore and pre-med exercise science major Zaria Opara has had a high-ranking track and field career. In her first year at Cal Lutheran, Opara ranked second in the nation in the discus throw, reaching 38.9 meters, third in the hammer throw at 41.86 meters and tenth in the shot put at 9.85 meters.

        Last weekend, some Cal Lutheran athletes returned Last weekend, some Cal Lutheran athletes returned for their first competitions in almost a year. Kingsmen and Regals Golf both placed second vs. Redlands, Chapman @ Olivas Golf Course in Ventura. Kingsmen Swim & Dive took down DII Concordia University Irvine 138-114 and the Regals fell short, 180-68. Both tennis teams fell short vs. Biola University at home; Regals 8-1, Kingsmen 8-0.
        Several students hit the Rosewood trail Friday aft Several students hit the Rosewood trail Friday afternoon for a group hike organized by Student Life. 
 
“My favorite part about the hike was honestly just getting outdoors with friends and meeting new people and especially right now it’s tough being behind a screen all day,” Cameron Mendez, Cal Lu student and hike organizer said. “A walk was relieving and it’s reassuring getting back to how we used to be a year ago.”
        The Fredrickson Family Early Childhood Center (FFE The Fredrickson Family Early Childhood Center (FFECC) at California Lutheran University has been closed since February 2020. Although many parts of the Thousand Oaks campus have reopened, the preschool that some faculty members and staff depend on for childcare currently remains closed.

        Oxnard Student Success kicked off their first cult Oxnard Student Success kicked off their first cultural workshop of the year, “Anti-Blackness in Latinx Communities,” in collaboration with ¡Viva Oxnard!, on Sunday, Feb. 20. Martín Alberto Gonzalez, who holds a doctorate in cultural foundations of education, led the presentation about discriminatory beliefs including colorism and prejudice in his community.

        The Kingsmen Basketball team returned to the court The Kingsmen Basketball team returned to the court to hold their first outdoor camp for 7-16 year olds Feb. 6-7. The Kingsmen led the youth through ball handling, dribbling and shooting drills while masked-up. 

“It’s great to be out with friends and other kids with so limited opportunity and in a safe environment,” said Ian Boys, a father of a camper.
