Students to compete in Among Us for raffle prizes

Friday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m., Associated Students of California Lutheran University Government and California Lutheran University Student Life will be holding a virtual Among Us game night.

Prizes up for grabs will include a 13-inch MacBook Air, a pair of AirPods Pro, a Nintendo Switch as well as Cal Lutheran Campus Store gift cards.

โ€œWe wanted to have some fun and engaging online events we could do,โ€ ASCLUG freshman representative Bella Abbatoye said in a Zoom interview. โ€œA lot of students are kind of tired of Zoom and we wanted to give them the option to get away from the typical Zoom events and do something entertaining.โ€

The virtual competition will take place on Discord, a voice chat service, where students will be able to chat with their fellow players to figure out who the imposter is.

Having a strategy is key to winning Among Us, Abbatoye said. โ€œIf I ever get the imposter, I will pretend like I donโ€™t know how to play the game.โ€

There was a section in the registration form where players could specify if they would like to be in a game with specific friends.

According to an email sent to registered participants Friday morning, the game will be divided into nine groups of 9-10 students each.

ย โ€œThe competition is going to be fierce,โ€ Abbatoye said.

The event is expected to go on until around 8 p.m. Then, prizes will be given away to a handful of lucky participants. When all games are finished, the winners will be chosen by raffle.

โ€œIt makes me happy that we were able to plan an event that that many people want to go to,โ€ Abbatoye said.

As for future events similar to this Among Us game night, Abbatoye said the positive response makes her see ASCLUG doing more events like this, maybe not with Among Us, but whatever game is most relevant to the moment.
