Kingsmen and Regals water polo coaching staff suspended
February 3, 2023
California Lutheran University has suspended the Kingsmen and Regals water polo coaching staff, which was confirmed by Associate Vice President of Marketing and Communication Mark A. Berry in an email. This follows the Kingsmen’s historic 2022 season that saw them claim the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title and play in the D-III national championship game.
Berry said that Interim Head Coach Cody Pletcher, as well as assistant coaches Rickey Mulcahey, Christin Hirn and Mike Artega were those suspended.
According to Berry, the suspension was “effective immediately and will last throughout the upcoming women’s season,” which is scheduled to begin on Feb. 11.
“Associate Athletic Director Brianne Talboom will manage the water polo program until the suspension is over,” Berry said.
The details surrounding the coaching staff’s suspension have not been disclosed, and The Echo contacted multiple players from both teams regarding the matter and did not get a response.
The Echo also contacted Talboom, Sports Information Director Ryan Jorgenson and Director of Athletics Holly Roepke, who have yet to respond.
The university has yet to release an official statement regarding the matter, and this article will be updated as more information is made available.
