The Center for Global Engagement and the United Students of the World Club hosted their annual World Fair on Friday, Nov. 22.
The event represented different countries with cultural decorations, food, and activities.
Aurelle Adja, a senior at Cal Lutheran, said the purpose of hosting the World Fair is to celebrate each unique country.
Junior Ninelihle Dube has been participating in the World Fair since her first year at Cal Lutheran.
โInternational students [should] feel that they are welcomed and that they feel seen and represented,โ Dube said.
Dube said every year is growing with people being interested in participating, including members of the Thousand Oaks community. According to Dube, different contries are being represented each year and more international students are coming from different parts of the world.
โEach year we see a different country represented and we see more international students coming from different parts of the world,โ Dube said.
โAs a student, I think itโs just a great way to learn about other peopleโs culture,โ Adja said.
Adja said building a diverse and global community is a beneficial part of learning and growth for the Thousand Oaks community.
โIt gives me a sense of belonging because I get to represent my country, and also get to learn about other countries,โ Dube said.
Adja said she was looking forward to the World Fair, seeing people come together, and learning about everyoneโs culture.
Hailey Hummel, a first-year student, said she had fun attending the World Fair, listening and watching the performances, tasting various foods, and how informative it was to go to different tables and learn about different cultures.
โI wish I would have spent more time. So, I will definitely be coming back next time. I will definitely be encouraging more of my friends to come,โ Hummel said.
