California Lutheran University’s Campus Ministry hosted an evening of crafts, charcuterie and conversations at Craft Night on Thursday, Nov. 6, in Samuelson Chapel.
Bre Freiberg, a senior who works as a student leader in Campus Ministry, said she organized the event for both those who have a connection to Cal Lutheran as well as others in the community. This year, she said she wanted to focus on “outreach.”
“Not only [outreach] to outside people connected to campus, but really bringing in people to Campus Ministry that might not have gone to chapel before,” Freiberg said.
Drawing on her love for crafts, Freiberg said she thought an event like this would be “fun” and would get people out of their dorms to “connect and create.”
“I know for me, [crafts] really help me to unwind and express myself tangibly,” Freiberg said. “I was just hoping that it would bring a lot of people here outside of their usual Thursday night and just kind of de-stress from the week.”
Sophomore Gracie Moore said she didn’t really know what to expect from the event but came anyway after hearing Freiberg was hosting it.
”There’s music currently going on, it’s, like, such a good vibe in here. Everyone is so nice and calm,” Moore said. “It’s just a really good way for me and everyone else to decompress, especially, like, after midterms.”
Students had the opportunity to choose their craft materials at a table that contained different papers, stickers, and much more. They were also able to create their own charcuterie plates, choosing any of the snacks available on the table.
“Seeing all the stuff on the table, vintage stickers, colored paper, all types of tapes and glues. Just the amount of stuff there is and the endless possibilities with everything provided, I was really excited to come up with what I wanted to make,” Moore said.
