Tayla Valencia, a senior at Cal Lutheran, transferred from Allan Hancock in 2022.
“It’s okay not to know and it’s okay to feel alone because it’s very isolating…but there are a lot more transfer students than you think,” Valencia said.
Valencia works as a resident assistant for Trinity Hall and as a departmental assistant for the Communication department.
Valencia encourages first-year transfer students to “reach out to your faculty mentor, don’t be afraid, make a connection, communicate the issues you’re experiencing or having to the right person.”
Second-year transfer students at California Lutheran University share their experiences and advice for first-year transfers. From learning how to network to navigating and creating new relationships, these transfer students provide insight into getting comfortable on campus.
