The Pearson Library hosted therapy dogs from Love On A Leash last Tuesday in the Native Plant Garden to promote positive student mental health and well-being after midterm season.
Reference Librarian Erin Sommers said hosting events like these gives students a chance to take a break from the everyday monotony of school and work.
โObviously people love dogs, but also dogs and just being around animals is known to make people feel relaxed, feel a little bit happier about their day,โ Sommers said.
Many people stopped and took part in the event. Students who chose to partake had the opportunity to pet a dog, take a selfie with them, or hear stories about the pups from their respective owners.
โMidterms and finals is kind of whatโs the stressful times, obviously with the world right now itโs a stressful time,โ Sommers said. โItโs important that we provide a space or things to help students feel relaxed.โ
Yogi Bear, Trout, and Kylo were just a few of the fan-favorite dogs who brought smiles to the faces of those present. Sommers said getting outside and engaging in unique events like this is highly beneficial to all those involved.
โYou know, youโre not in a screen, youโre not stuck indoors, so I think itโs really important,โ Sommers said.
According to Sommers, the library will continue to host events like these and hopes to have the therapy dogs back at the end of the year, during finals, to continue bringing joy and relaxation to all students at California Lutheran University.
